CRRC Beidou Yunshang Bus Begins Trial Operation in Vocational Education City

15 October 2024

On October 15, 2024, the Beidou Yunshang Bus, jointly operated and maintained by Zhuzhou Public Transportation Company and CRRC Electric, will commence trial operation in Vocational Education City.

The Beidou Yunshang Bus, developed by CRRC Electric, adopts a more flexible and compact 5.33-meter city bus design, allowing it to navigate narrower roads. It operates without fixed routes or stops, instead utilizing CRRC Electric's self-developed online reservation and algorithm matching system. Within a specified region, the system combines ride-sharing orders based on passenger demand to form travel routes, precisely dispatching vehicles to provide point-to-point transportation services. The core technological support of the Beidou Yunshang Bus lies in the application of the Beidou system. The platform can track the real-time location of the bus, enabling more accurate vehicle control and dispatch, improving operational efficiency, and reducing passenger waiting times.

Within the approximately 13-kilometer range of Vocational Education City, 100 virtual stops have been established, covering nine institutions.

Citizens can use the "Yunshang Bus" WeChat mini-program to ride the bus like a ride-hailing service. The fare is 2 yuan, and the trial operation time is from 7:00 to 22:00.

Apart from the application of Beidou's high-precision positioning technology, the Beidou Yunshang Bus represents CRRC Electric's initial foray into transforming from equipment production and sales to urban operation and management based on the "platform + equipment" integrated model. In the future, the Beidou Yunshang Bus will iterate based on customized ride-hailing services, promoting the large-scale application of core technologies such as L4 autonomous driving in this scenario. It will also integrate diverse urban transportation modes, forming a MaaS (Mobility as a Service) travel system that connects "large-medium-small" transport capacities for seamless transfer and intermodal travel.
