2000 Electric Buses in Moscow Improve the Environment and Increase the Comfort and Safety of Passenger Transportation
11 September 2024
On September 9, the World Electric Vehicle Day, the 2000th electric bus appeared on the capital's routes. The jubilee electric bus was assembled at the Sokolniki Car Repair and Construction Plant (SVARZ). The vehicle will operate on the route M3 “Serebryany Bor - Budyonnogo Prospekt”, connecting the north-west, center and east of Moscow.
The first bus route in the capital was opened in 1924. Eight vehicles traveled from Kalanchyovskaya Square to Tverskaya Zastava Square - today's three train stations and Belorussky Railway Station. Nowadays, the Moscow bus is gradually being replaced by the electric bus - modern, comfortable and environmentally friendly. Replacing one bus with an e-bus reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 60 tons per year. One passenger of an electric bus emits 145 times less harmful substances than a passenger of a car with an internal combustion engine.
Innovative Russian vehicles have been on the routes since 2018. Moscow electric buses meet the strictest standards of passenger service - they are considered one of the best in the world in terms of value for money.
Almost a quarter of the surface urban transport fleet are Russian-made electric buses. As a result, the comfort of travel is increasing and the negative impact on the environment is decreasing. By the end of 2030 Moscow will purchase about 3.9 thousand more electric buses. Thus, the capital's surface urban transport will almost completely switch to electric traction.
Development of electric transport in Moscow
Since 2018, 7 bus depots for electric bus service have been modernized in the capital, and 3 modern Houses for innovative transport have been opened since 2022: “Krasnaya Pakhra”, “Mitino” and “Saltykovka”. Charging infrastructure is placed on the territory of electric bus parks. In addition, charging stations are installed along electric bus routes. Today there are more than 340 ultra-fast charging stations for electric buses in Moscow. From 2022, electric buses with improved equipment come to Moscow, and from 2024 - in the most modern design.
“On the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we are developing the system of urban electric transport. The jubilee 2000th electric bus appeared on the streets of Moscow. Innovative vehicles account for almost 25% of the capital's surface urban transport fleet. The order for the supply of modern vehicles provides employment in the regions, and thousands of specialists are involved in their creation. By 2030, the number of electric buses in Moscow will reach 5.3 thousand - most of the surface urban transport will become environmentally friendly”, - said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
