ZF Receives Innovation Award for Its CeTrax Technology at Busworld Europe

29 October 2019

ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Friedrichshafen, Germany, has received the Innovation Award for its CeTrax electric central drive technology from the trade fair, Busworld Europe, taking place in Brussels, Belgium, from October, 18–23, 2019. Busworld Europe runs biennially and is said to be the biggest bus and coach exhibition in the world. Its 2017 edition received over 37,000 guests from 118 countries.

CeTrax, which was designed specifically for use in buses, was presented to the public for the first time in 2017. The design of the drive is based on a plug-and-drive approach and the technology can reportedly be easily installed in vehicles with a conventional driveline layout. This makes it suitable for the development of new vehicles as well as for retrofitting existing platforms, allowing vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators to respond flexibly to market requirements and legal regulations.

This is the second award that ZF has received this year for its electric bus drives, having won the Environmental Protection Award at the ElekBu 2019 trade show, Berlin, Germany, in February 2019, for its AxTrax AVE electric portal axle.

Dr Andreas Grossl, Head of Axle and Transmission Systems for Buses and Coaches at ZF, commented, “This award demonstrates again that ZF is a pioneer in the electrification of all vehicle segments. CeTrax is a central building block in developing future-proof mass transit, which ZF makes every effort to support. The trophy proves once again that we are on the right track with our strategy.”
