VAN Sales Surpass 40,000 Units in March for First Time in a Year

March is traditionally known as the "Golden Third Month" for the commercial vehicle market. How did China's VAN market perform in March 2025?
According to the latest data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), sales of VAN in China reached 42,723 units in March 2025, marking the first time in recent months that sales have exceeded the 40,000-unit threshold. While sales dipped slightly by 1.58% year-on-year, they surged by 50.9% month-on-month, indicating a significant improvement in the VAN market compared to the first two months of the year.
From January to March 2025, cumulative sales of light passenger vehicles reached 101,822 units, up by 10.25% year-on-year.
With sales of 41,723 units in March 2025, this was the first time in the past 12 months (since April 2024) that VAN sales had exceeded 40,000 units. The month-on-month increase was more than 50% (50.9%), demonstrating a strong rebound and a clear upward trend in the VAN market.
In the March 2025 top 10 VAN sales rankings:
Changan Automobile sold 12,020 units, ranking first in the VAN industry and being the only automaker with sales exceeding 10,000 units. Sales increased by 18.93% year-on-year and 43.11% month-on-month, accounting for nearly 30% (28.13%) of the market share, making it a dominant player.
JMC Motors sold 9,004 units, ranking second. Sales decreased by 2.33% year-on-year but increased by 53.34% month-on-month, with a market share of 21.08%.
SAIC Maxus sold 8,901 units, ranking third. Sales increased by 12.2% year-on-year and 56.76% month-on-month, with a market share of 20.83%.
