China Buses Export Hit Record High in January, Golden Dragon Leads and Zhongtong Ranks Second
14 February 2025
In January 2025, China exported a total of 4,736 large, medium, and light buses, representing a year-on-year increase of 35.24%. Despite the Lunar New Year holiday in January, China bus exports still achieved significant year-on-year growth, thanks to the persistent efforts and continuous marketing push by bus companies overseas. Historically, China bus exports have been on the rise year by year, with a particularly notable increase in January, climbing from just over a thousand vehicles to over 4,700 vehicles from 2022 to 2025, demonstrating impressive growth rates.
In January 2025, overall bus exports increased by 35.24% year on year, with the three sub-markets of large, medium, and light buses performing differently. Large buses saw a surprising decline, with 2,215 units exported in January 2025, a year-on-year decrease of 8.96%, whereas in January 2024, large bus exports had increased by 60% year on year. Medium buses continued to grow, with 675 units exported in January 2025, up 14.8% year on year. Light buses surged, with 1,846 units exported in January 2025, a year-on-year increase of 283.78%, making them the most eye-catching in terms of growth rate among the three sub-markets. However, in terms of export volume, large buses still led the way.
By function, in January 2025, 3,392 seated buses were exported, an increase of 2,080 units compared to the same period last year, with a year-on-year surge of 158.54%; 1,071 city buses were exported, a decrease of 1,041 units compared to the same period last year, down 49.29% year on year; 22 school buses were exported, down 66.15% year on year; and 251 other buses were exported, up 1830.77% year on year. Thus, seated buses and city buses remained the main types of buses exported from China in January 2025. Seated buses not only had high export volumes but also experienced rapid growth.
The export volume of this type of bus in January was impressive even when compared to the full year of 2024, exceeding not only January 2024 but also every other month except December 2024.
